# Brush menu

The brush menu opens with a left-click on the brush item. It has 54 slots in six rows of nine. Slots are numbered from 0 at the top left, the same numbers as the labels in the pictures below. The palette has five slots, numbered 1 to 5 in the menu, which are slots 46 to 50 of the menu.

Review note: this table is written by hand from the section comments of `GUI.java` and the click handler of `InventoryListener`. The pictures are generated from the code. When the layout changes, update this table and regenerate the pictures with `./gradlew generateDocsImages`.

| 52 | Current Mask | The mask block | Left-click with a solid block sets the mask block. |

The panes above and below slots 10 to 16 (slots 1 to 7 and 19 to 25) act like the item in their column. All other slots are fillers: a click does nothing.

## Settings and their ranges

Steps are per click. Shift-click is listed where it changes the step.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.onelitefeather.net/reference/brush-menu.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
